Top 5: Sun creams for summer

Sun protection is not a luxury, it’s a necessity so make sure it’s the first thing that you put into your suitcase when you’re packing for your holidays.

The British Skin Foundation recommends an SPF of at least 30 or above with a broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection (look for the star rating on the back of the bottle for the UVA protection).

I’ve picked out five of my favourite sun protection products to help make your decision on which ones to pack a little easier!

La Roche Posay Anthelios Nutritive Oil SPF50+, £17.50

I am a huge fan of La Roche Posay and their Anthelios sun protection range is no exception. This new launch from the French pharmacy brand promises a non-greasy, yet hydrating oil that offers very high protection for even the most sensitive skins, and that is exactly what it delivers. It feels so luxurious on your skin and for such a high SPF, it’s fantastic not to have that pasty, white residue. It’s hypoallergenic and paraben-free too.

JASÖN Family Natural sunblock SPF45, £11.99

It’s hard to find a good and natural sun cream, but thankfully JASÖN have re-launched and created the perfect summer range. It’s water-resistant and non-greasy formula is tipped to be a favourite of Reese Witherspoon, Stella McCartney, Downton Abbey’s Bryce Dallas and um, me.

Delph Sun Lotion SPF 30, £4.79

This is one of the most affordable sun creams I have come across, but it doesn’t compromise on quality. It has a four star UVA rating and contains luxury ingredients like Shea butter and coconut oil to care for your skin. For simple skincare that doesn’t dip into your holiday fund, this is one to pick up.

UltraSun Glimmer SPF 20, £16

UltraSun offers all day protection, but if you’re anything like me (pale and very prone to burning!) you’ll re-apply anyway but it’s good to have that security nonetheless. I love the glimmer versions as the tiny golden specs in the lotion deliver just a subtle hint of luminosity on your skin, and if you’re feeling a little dull and pasty on your first day in the sun, this is perfect. It’s also free from oil, emulsifiers and perfume so for sensitive skins it’s ideal.

bareMinerals SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen, £25

This is a handbag essential for me during the summer. The handy design makes it easy to top up your sun protection on the go, whether you’re just popping out to lunch or heading to the beach bar from your sun lounger. A bit pricey for its 4g of product, but I promise you’ll be reaching for it constantly throughout the summer.
